This is a good opportunity to let him know that you are going through something (anything… happy, sad, or indifferent). He truly believes in treating the entire person and not just a single tooth.
If you come to the office for a cleaning he will step in with the hygienist to examine your overall dental health. He will look for decay, broken teeth, and check your bone levels. If there is reason for any concern he will discuss it with you.
If you have returned to the office to have decay removed and filled or to fix a broken tooth he will join the dental assistant in your room, give you anesthetic (he doesn’t want you to feel a thing!) and proceed as appropriate. If you are feeling apprehensive about dental treatment he make take this time to explain the procedure more thoroughly, or make a joke in attempt to lighten the atmosphere.
